What EduCS is

The notes live at educs.me: explanations, worked examples and self-check quizzes that you can use without an account. This app adds the skill map, the simulators, exam-style practice with step-by-step marking, short games, and class accounts that keep track of progress.

The notes stay free and open to everyone. The app builds on them with interactive activities, personal progress and feedback.

It is built and run by the EduCS team, founded and led by a computer science educator, for his own classes first. The content follows the IB DP Computer Science syllabus, and features are shaped and tested through real classroom use. You can reach us through the contact page on educs.me.

The skill map covers the seven areas of the course. The notes, simulators, Practice Tutor and arcade are available now. Content continues to grow, and some map topics do not yet have linked pages.

The six layers on the skill map, and the picture of them as rings with information at the centre and communication outermost, come from Nell Dale and John Lewis, Computer Science Illuminated (Jones & Bartlett Learning). The map adds an assessment ring around them, and the topics within each layer follow the current IB Computer Science syllabus.

Marks

How you did on one exam-style question, credit by credit. Marks stay with that question.

Points

Rewards for activities such as quizzes, weekly participation and games. Some awards confirm immediately. Others remain provisional until teacher review or automatic confirmation when eligible. There are no deductions in normal play, and any correction is visible.

Progress level

The app’s topic levels are Encountered, Developing, Secure and Connected. Each level has requirements based on your recorded work.

Streak

Counts the weeks when you take part in class activities, with one inactive week allowed.

Gear and collection

A visual record of progress: each topic you practise can unlock a piece your companion wears, and the piece grows as your progress level rises.

Weekly practice card

A card in the arcade that celebrates practice and improvement within your class each week. It shows only the names of classmates who choose to be included, without scores or rankings.
